About
Mickey Saloma has over 25 years of experience in university admissions and college counseling. He was born in Pamplona, Spain, grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and found his way to Texas in 1994 when he decided to attend Texas A&M University to be a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets. He graduated in 1998 and completed his MBA in 2006.
After finishing his undergrad, he was an admissions counselor for Texas A&M and his territories included San Antonio, Laredo, Corpus Christi, El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley. In 2002, he moved to Dallas and opened up Texas A&M’s first satellite office, the Texas A&M DFW Regional Prospective Student Center. In 2003, he was hired by a non-profit company, Advanced Placement Strategies, where he served as a college advisor at two Dallas ISD high schools.
In 2008, Mickey was named the Director of Undergraduate Recruitment and Retention at the SMU Lyle School of Engineering. In addition to leading Lyle’s recruitment and retention efforts, he also oversees the Lyle Alumni Board. He was promoted to Assistant Dean in the summer of 2014. In July of 2018, Mickey became the Director of College Counseling at a private school in the Metroplex.
Mickey has been very involved in the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC). He received the TACAC Founder’s Award in 2014 and the 2014 NACAC Rising Star Awards for helping to develop the TACAC Webinar Series. For TACAC, he has served as the Professional Development Committee Co-Chair and represented Texas ACAC as a NACAC Delegate for the last six years. He served as the 2018-2019 TACAC President.
